Description
Domaine René Rostaing Côte-Rôtie 'La Landonne' is a single-vineyard Syrah from one of the most celebrated parcels on the Côte Brune, in the northern Rhône.
La Landonne lies on the northern half of the Côte-Rôtie hill, the Côte Brune, where the schist carries a high proportion of iron and gives the slope the darker colouring its name refers to. The terraces are severe and worked entirely by hand. Rostaing's holding here is small, planted to Syrah alone, and the wine has always been built for the long haul. René Rostaing started out with a single hectare in 1971 and later took on the vines of his father-in-law Albert Dervieux-Thaïze and of Marius Gentaz-Dervieux, two growers whose names still carry enormous weight in Ampuis; the domaine is now in the hands of his son Pierre.
One for the cellar; decant well ahead and serve at around seventeen degrees with roast or braised red meat.
