Description
Domaine Rijckaert Pouilly-Fuissé Vieilles Vignes is a Chardonnay from one of the Mâconnais's most celebrated appellations, drawn from a selection of the estate's older vines.
Domaine Rijckaert was founded in 1998 by Jean Rijckaert, who had spent years working across the Mâconnais before establishing his own estate in Burgundy and later extending it into the Jura around Arbois. Since 2013 the domaine has been led by his long-time collaborator Florent Rouve, who continues Jean's hands-off, terroir-first philosophy, farming organically and favouring native-yeast fermentation with extended ageing in older barrels so each site's limestone soils can come through with minimal winemaking intervention. Pouilly-Fuissé, on the Mâconnais's western edge, is prized among the region's Chardonnay appellations for producing richer, more structured wines from its limestone and clay hillsides.
A fuller-styled white Burgundy from old vines, it suits richer white-meat and creamy dishes as well as cellaring for those who enjoy more developed Chardonnay.
