Domaine Rossignol-Février Pommard Les Vignots 2022

Domaine Rossignol-Février Pommard Les Vignots is a single vineyard village Burgundy from a named site high on the Pommard slope, towards the Beaune boundary.

Les Vignots sits above the band of premiers crus at the northern end of the commune, on thinner, stonier ground where the extra altitude slows ripening by a few days. Sites of this kind are village level on paper, but growers have bottled them separately for generations because their character is distinct enough to warrant it. Pommard itself is the broadest shouldered of the Côte de Beaune's red communes, its iron rich clay over limestone giving wines with more frame than Volnay across the way. The domaine hand harvests, ferments in the traditional manner and matures the wine in barrel with restrained use of new oak.

Decant before serving at about 16 degrees, alongside roast duck, game birds or beef; five to ten years in the cellar suits it well.
