Domaine Rossignol-Février Volnay 1er Cru Carelle sous la Chapelle is a premier cru from a mid-slope site named for the chapel that stands above it.

Volnay is the most finely drawn of the Côte de Beaune's red communes, a village of shallow, stony limestone soils that has been prized since the dukes of Burgundy kept a residence there. It has no grand cru, but close to thirty premiers crus, and Carelle sous la Chapelle lies among the better of them, at mid slope towards the Pommard side of the appellation, immediately below the chapel that gives the vineyard its name. Rossignol is one of the long established vigneron names of the village. The wine is hand picked, fermented traditionally and raised in oak barrel with a measured proportion of new wood.

Serve at around 16 degrees after a short decant, with roast poultry, duck or mushroom dishes; it should develop happily over five to twelve years.
