Domaine Rossignol-Février Volnay Vieilles Vignes 2023

Domaine Rossignol-Février Volnay Vieilles Vignes is a village Burgundy drawn from the domaine's oldest plantings in Volnay.

Volnay sits on the Côte de Beaune between Pommard and Meursault, on shallow, stony limestone soils that give reds of finesse rather than sheer weight. The village has close to thirty premiers crus and no grand cru, an accident of classification that has long made its village wines good value for the quality of the ground they come from. Vieilles vignes is not a regulated term in Burgundy, but growers apply it to older plantings, which crop less and root deeper. Rossignol is one of the established vigneron names of the village. The wine is hand harvested, fermented in the traditional manner and raised in oak barrel.

Serve at about 16 degrees with roast chicken, duck or a plate of charcuterie; it drinks well young and will keep for five to eight years.
