Domaine Saint Damien Gigondas blanc Les Prés 2024

Domaine Saint Damien Gigondas blanc Les Prés is a pure Clairette white from a named parcel at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail.

Gigondas was a red and rosé appellation for half a century before white was admitted to the cru, and the rules require Clairette to make up at least seventy per cent of any blend, which is why so many of the whites are pure Clairette. Domaine Saint Damien is based in the village, where Joël Saurel farms on limestone scree and marl washed down from the Dentelles, with vineyards running high enough for the nights to stay cool through summer. Les Prés is a named parcel of Clairette, an old southern Rhône variety that ripens late and holds its acidity on hot sites while staying moderate in alcohol. It is picked and handled to keep that freshness, without new oak marking the wine.

Dry, firm and mineral in character rather than aromatic, it suits grilled fish, chicken and hard cheeses; serve at around 11 degrees.
