Domaine Saint Damien Gigondas La Louisiane 2024

Saint Damien La Louisiane is a Gigondas from a named parcel worked by the Saurel family at the foot of the Dentelles.

Gigondas is one of the southern Rhone crus that keeps its shape, because its vineyards sit on limestone scree washed down from the Dentelles de Montmirail rather than on the deep clay of the valley floor, and much of the land lies high enough for cool nights to preserve acidity. La Louisiane is one of the individual parcels Domaine Saint Damien bottles separately, farmed by Joel Saurel from the village of Gigondas with hand picking and no herbicides in the vineyard. Grenache forms the base of the blend with Mourvedre adding grip and a darker, more savoury note. Ageing takes place in concrete tank and old foudre, in keeping with the estate's refusal of new oak.

Full and savoury with the firm tannin of the cru, it suits roast lamb, game and cassoulet; serve at around 17 degrees.
