Description
Les Hautes Garrigues is the old-vine Gigondas Santa Duc draws from equal parts Grenache and Mourvèdre high on the plateau.
The lieu-dit sits on the Cône de la Font des Papes, a fan of sand streaked with red clay and coarse gravel, where seventy-five-year-old vines ripen late and hang onto their acidity. Vineyard work is certified organic and biodynamic, and maturation lasts a year and a half, four-fifths in Austrian Stockinger foudres and the remainder in terracotta, with no fining or filtration before bottling.
This is the serious end of the range: blueberry and black plum compote, dried herbs, liquorice and a chewy, deeply structured palate that will repay a decade or more in the cellar. Open it early, serve at 16-18°C, and pair with venison, slow-cooked shoulder of goat or a mature washed-rind cheese.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
