Description
Domaine Saumaize-Michelin Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru 'La Maréchaude' is a single-vineyard Chardonnay from one of the benchmark estates of the Mâconnais, in southern Burgundy.
Based in the village of Vergisson, beneath its dramatic limestone rock, the domaine was built by Roger and Christine Saumaize-Michelin into one of the most respected names in Pouilly-Fuissé. Farming is guided by biodynamic principles, with regular tilling to keep the soil alive and manual work throughout the season, from disbudding and leaf-thinning through to hand picking. The vineyards climb the slopes around Vergisson and Solutré across a mix of limestone and marl, and each cru is vinified separately to preserve its individual character, with 'La Maréchaude' among the estate's classified Premier Cru sites.
A precise, terroir-expressive white, it suits fine seafood, richer poultry dishes and other occasions that call for a serious, food-friendly Burgundy.
