Domaine Schoffit Riesling Rangen 1.5L MAGNUM 2018

Schoffit Riesling Rangen comes from the volcanic terraces of the steepest grand cru in Alsace, and is bottled here in magnum.

Rangen de Thann is the southernmost and steepest grand cru in Alsace, a south facing volcanic amphitheatre above the river Thur with gradients that must be terraced and worked entirely by hand. Domaine Schoffit, based in Colmar, owns the Clos Saint Theobald within Rangen and is one of only a handful of estates with holdings on the hill. The dark volcanic sedimentary soil holds heat and pushes Riesling to full ripeness, while altitude and exposure keep the acidity intact. Fruit is hand picked in successive passes, whole bunch pressed and fermented slowly, giving a smoky, powerful and long lived expression of the grape.

Powerful and smoky yet dry, it stands up to roast pork, smoked eel, curry spice and strong cheese; serve at 11 to 12 degrees and decant a young magnum.
