Description
Domaine Stéphane Aladame Montagny 1er Cru Découverte is a white Burgundy blended from two premier cru sites and raised entirely without oak.
Montagny sits at the southern end of the Côte Chalonnaise and makes white wine only, from Chardonnay. It carries an unusually large number of premier cru climats, covering much of the appellation, which means the grower matters more here than the classification does — a point Stéphane Aladame makes himself. His domaine is based at Montagny-lès-Buxy and has done as much as any to lift the appellation's reputation. Découverte is a blend of two limestone-rich premier cru vineyards, Les Maroques and Les Gouresses, from vines planted between 1995 and 2014. The wine was fermented and raised entirely in tank, so there is nothing between the drinker and the chalky, citrus-toned character of the site.
Ready now and best over the next three to four years. Serve at 10-12°C with oysters, grilled flathead or fresh goat's cheese.
