Domaine Stéphane Aladame Montagny Prélude 2021

Domaine Stéphane Aladame Montagny Prélude is the introductory white in a range built entirely on this one Côte Chalonnaise appellation.

Montagny lies at the southern end of the Côte Chalonnaise and produces only white wine from Chardonnay, on limestone slopes that give a leaner, brisker style than the Côte de Beaune. Stéphane Aladame took over a small holding here as a teenager in the early 1990s and has spent his career making the case for the appellation. Prélude is sourced from the vineyards of Le May in Saint-Vallerin and Les Coères in Montagny, and was raised for ten months in a combination of tank, around 60 per cent, and older barrels for the balance. That split keeps the volume and texture of the wine in check while a consistent thread of acidity runs underneath, giving a balanced, well-defined example of an underrated name.

Ready now and drinking well for three or four years. Serve at 10-12°C with grilled fish, chicken terrine or a soft young cheese.
