Description
Domaine Vincent Dancer Beaune 1er Cru Les Montrevenots Rouge comes from a high, rocky site on pure limestone at the Pommard boundary.
Les Montrevenots sits at the top of the hill above Clos des Mouches, at the southern limit of Beaune where the commune meets Pommard. Altitude here delays ripening, though the south-facing aspect offsets some of that. The soils are white marl over pure limestone, quite different from the clay-rich ground of Dancer's other red parcels, and this is what gives the wine its red-fruit perfume, coolness and fine, powdery structure. The domaine's vines went in during 1996. Théo Dancer destems the reds completely, extracts gently with a single punch-down in some cuvées, and matures the wine in older barrels, so tannin comes from the site rather than from wood or hard working of the cap. Beaune's premiers crus are among the better-value red terroirs of the Côte.
Drinking well from a year or two and holding for eight. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, pork rillettes or a mushroom tart.
