Description
Domaine Vincent Dancer Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Beaune Blanc is the first white release from the domaine's young agroforestry planting at Nantoux.
The Hautes-Côtes de Beaune covers the higher, cooler plateau behind the main Côte, where later ripening and greater diurnal swing tend to give fresher wines. Nantoux, perched above Pommard, is a village known for its pale pink limestone quarries and the walking country between its vineyards, woods and meadows. The Dancer family have planted two hectares of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir there, interspersed with local tree species, an agroforestry approach intended to provide shade, wind protection and greater biological diversity among the rows. Part of the motive was also practical: additional fruit to offset several short harvests. The site largely escaped spring frost, but hail arrived days before picking and only two barrels were made. Winemaking follows the domaine's usual pattern of whole-bunch pressing, natural ferments and ageing in old oak.
Drink over the next three to four years. Serve at 10-12°C with grilled fish, chicken salad or a fresh goat's cheese.
