Domaine Vincent Dancer Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot 2020

Vincent Dancer's Morgeot comes from a third of a hectare planted in 2012 at the extraordinary density of twenty thousand vines to the hectare.

Morgeot covers a broad sweep of the lower slope south of Chassagne towards Santenay and is subdivided into a long list of climats. Its soils carry more clay than the crus above the road, and the wines are correspondingly fuller and firmer; the very high planting density on this parcel forces the young vines to compete and root deeply. Vincent Dancer, an engineer by training, took over family parcels in 1996 at twenty-two and built his cellar the year after; the domaine runs to around six hectares across Chassagne, Puligny, Meursault, Pommard and Beaune, and his son Théo now handles the day-to-day. In the cellar there is spontaneous fermentation with no additions, no bâtonnage, used barrels with little or no new wood, and bottling without fining or filtration.

Approachable at three years and good for ten. Serve at 10-12°C with roast pork, chicken in cream or a nutty hard cheese.
