Domaine Vincent Dancer Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot 2023

This Morgeot comes from La Grande Bourne on the Santenay border, a parcel planted in 2013 at 20,000 vines per hectare.

Morgeot spreads across the southern end of Chassagne-Montrachet and takes in many separate climats, with the sites higher up the slope generally on poorer, whiter soils and those lower down carrying more clay. Vincent Dancer's parcel here sits low on the slope in the climat historically known as La Grande Bourne, right on the boundary with Santenay, on very rocky limestone with more clay in the profile than his Tête du Clos holding further up. The vines were established in 2013 and planted at the unusually high density of 20,000 per hectare, which together with low yields produces very small, concentrated bunches. In the cellar the domaine ferments naturally, uses new oak sparingly and matures the wine on lees, which suits the depth and length the site provides.

Approachable at three years and worth holding for a decade. Serve at 10-12°C with roast pork, grilled prawns or a washed-rind cheese.
