Domaine Vincent Dancer Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Rouge 2023

This is Vincent Dancer's red Morgeot, the domaine's first small allocation from the plot since it was replanted in 2017.

Morgeot is the largest of Chassagne-Montrachet's Premiers Crus, spread across the southern end of the commune, and although the village is now best known for white wine, red Pinot Noir has a long history here on the clay-rich, stony soils. The domaine, at Chassagne, is run by Vincent Dancer with his son Théo and works small parcels across Chassagne, Meursault and Pommard. This plot was replanted in 2017 with mass-selection cuttings developed with Lilian Bérillon, the nurseryman who supplies growers such as Chave, Bize-Leroy and Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. Red winemaking here follows the house pattern of full destemming and very gentle extraction, which favours perfume and transparency over weight. The result is layered and scented, but more savoury and earthy in register than the domaine's Pommard bottlings, as befits Chassagne.

Drinkable young and good for eight to ten years. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, mushroom dishes or a soft rind cheese.
