Domaine Vincent Dancer Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Tête du Clos 2023

Tête du Clos is a sub-climat at the apex of Morgeot, and Vincent Dancer was the first in Chassagne to bottle it under its lieu-dit name.

Morgeot is Chassagne-Montrachet's largest Premier Cru, containing some twenty separate named sites of varying quality. Tête du Clos sits at the top of it, bordered by La Romanée to the north and Les Embazées to the south-west, where the white soil is very rocky and gives wines with a tensile, mineral edge and considerable depth. Vincent Dancer inherited the vines in 2000 and began labelling the wine with the climat name, a practice others in the village have since followed. His parcel was planted in 1954, and the age of the vines shows in the density of the fruit. Winemaking is deliberately plain, with natural fermentation, little new oak and long élevage, so the limestone character of the site comes through clearly. It is, in effect, the domaine's Chassagne answer to its Meursault Perrières.

Worth three to five years and good for fifteen. Serve at 10-12°C with grilled fish, roast chicken or a hard sheep's-milk cheese.
