Domaine Vincent Dancer Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières 2020

Vincent Dancer's Meursault Perrières comes from the vineyard widely regarded as the finest Premier Cru in the village.

Les Perrières sits at the Puligny end of Meursault, its name taken from the old quarries that gave the site its stony, shallow soils. That geology is why the wine is consistently the tautest and most mineral of the Meursault crus, and why many growers argue it deserves Grand Cru rank. Vincent Dancer, an engineer by training, took over family parcels in 1996 at twenty-two and built his cellar the year after; the domaine runs to around six hectares across Chassagne, Puligny, Meursault, Pommard and Beaune, and his son Théo now handles the day-to-day. He was the first grower in Chassagne to certify organic, in 2012, having farmed that way since 2006, and works the premier cru rows with a horse. In the cellar there is spontaneous fermentation with no additions, no bâtonnage, used barrels with little or no new wood, and bottling without fining or filtration.

Best given four or five years, with a decade or more ahead of it. Serve at 10-12°C with lobster, roast chicken or a well-aged Comté.
