Description
Les Pézerolles sits above Les Petits Épenots and Clos des Epeneaux, making it one of Pommard's highest and finest Premiers Crus.
Pommard has a reputation for firm, structured Pinot Noir, but Les Pézerolles is the exception that regularly gives the village's most refined reds; its higher position and lighter soils produce a style many tasters find as close to Volnay as to Pommard. Several well-known names farm it, including De Montille and Lafarge. Vincent Dancer's parcel is small and was planted in 1978. The domaine destems its fruit and extracts gently, aiming at perfume and detail rather than tannic weight, and this cuvée is now raised exclusively in ceramic vessels rather than oak, a change that has added further clarity and lift. Yields across the estate are low, which shows in the concentration of the fruit despite the light handling in the cellar.
Give it two or three years and drink over the following decade. Serve at 16-18°C with roast lamb, braised beef or hard cheeses.
