Description
Domaine Vincent Dancer Pommard les Perrières comes from the first Pommard vineyard you reach on leaving Beaune, directly below the Clos des Epeneaux.
Pommard has a reputation for the firmest reds of the Côte de Beaune, though the northern end of the commune, closest to Beaune, tends to give rather more supple wines than the famous Rugiens sector further south. Les Perrières lies on that Beaune side, immediately beneath the Clos des Epeneaux, on the right of the D974 as you drive south. Vincent Dancer, who has run his small domaine from Chassagne-Montrachet since the mid-1990s, farms almost a hectare here, planted in 2012. The vineyard is worked to very low yields, which is where the textural richness of the wine comes from given the relative youth of the vines. As across the range, the winemaking is restrained, with the emphasis on perfume and detail rather than extraction or new oak.
Approachable from two or three years and good for a decade. Serve at 16-18°C with roast lamb, duck breast or a mushroom and thyme tart.
