Description
Les Perrières is the first Pommard vineyard on the right as you leave Beaune on the D974, sitting directly below the famed Clos des Epeneaux.
Pommard's northern end, closest to Beaune, gives reds with flesh and depth from clay over limestone. Les Perrières lies in that sector, under the walls of the Clos des Epeneaux. The Dancer family farm almost a hectare here, planted in 2012, and work with very low yields to build texture from relatively young vines. Winemaking at the domaine, now largely in the hands of Théo Dancer, is deliberately light-handed: the fruit is destemmed, extraction is minimal, often no more than a single gentle punch-down a day to wet the cap, and élevage avoids heavy new oak. The point is transparency to site, and this village Pommard shows the appellation's depth without its old reputation for heaviness.
Drinking well after a year or two and good for eight. Serve at 16-18°C with roast pork, coq au vin or mushroom tart.
