Domaine Vincent Dureuil-Janthial Rully Blanc Maizières 2017

Domaine Vincent Dureuil-Janthial Rully Blanc Maizières is a single-vineyard Chardonnay from a sunny lieu-dit east of the village, planted in 1997.

Rully lies at the northern end of the Côte Chalonnaise, close enough to the Côte de Beaune to share its clay and limestone soils but priced well below it, which has long made the appellation useful ground for Australian buyers looking for white Burgundy. Vincent Dureuil-Janthial is the reference grower of the village, and his holdings are farmed organically. Maizières sits east of Rully on lighter clay and limestone, and the two hectares he works there are planted to both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The Pinot goes into the Rully Rouge; the Chardonnay is kept apart and bottled as this single-vineyard wine. Despite the lighter soils it is the more generous of his Rully whites, with more flesh and breadth than the village bottling.

Approachable on release and worth five to eight years in the cellar, it goes with roast chicken, scallops or a gruyère tart. Serve at 10-12°C.
