Domaine Vincent Dureuil-Janthial Rully Rouge En Guesnes 2015

En Guesnes is one of the named Rully parcels Vincent Dureuil-Janthial bottles on its own, a village-level Pinot Noir kept separate from his straight Rully rouge.

Rully sits at the northern end of the Côte Chalonnaise, where the limestone and marl of the Côte de Beaune carry on south in a gentler, slightly cooler line. The Dureuil family has grown vines here for generations, and Vincent took over from his father Raymond in 1994, at twenty-four, working the estate with his wife Céline. They farm around seventeen to twenty hectares, most of it in Rully, organically — the certification was lost in 2016 after treatments in a ruinous season — and pick by hand. For the reds the fruit is sorted hard and fully destemmed, given a cold maceration of eight to ten days at low temperature, then fermented on indigenous yeasts in open vats. Ageing is in barrel with a modest share of new oak, followed by several months in tank, and the wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered with very little sulphur.

Approachable after a year or two and good for several more. Serve at 16–18°C with roast pork, coq au vin or a soft washed-rind cheese.
