Domaine Vincent Dureuil-Janthial Rully Rouge En Guesnes 2018

En Guesnes is a village site in Rully tucked behind the premier cru Le Meix Cadot, and it is one of Vincent Dureuil-Janthial's most consistent reds.

Rully sits at the northern end of the Côte Chalonnaise, where the limestone continues south from the Côte de Beaune but the wines carry a lighter frame and a lower price. Dureuil-Janthial is the leading name in the commune and holds a broad spread of parcels there. En Guesnes, which appears on the cadastral map as Ez Guesnes, is a small site with cool clay and limestone soils; a hectare of forty-year-old Pinot Noir provides the bulk of the fruit, supported by 0.3 hectares of seventy-year-old vines, and the domaine also has a little Chardonnay planted in the same place. Production is small enough that allocations are not guaranteed from one year to the next.

Ready after a year or two and good for six to eight; serve at 16-18°C with roast chicken, charcuterie or a mushroom dish.
