Domaine Vincent Girardin Monthélie 1er Cru 'Sur La Velle' 2023

Domaine Vincent Girardin Monthélie 1er Cru 'Sur La Velle' is a medium-bodied red Burgundy from Pinot Noir grown in the Côte de Beaune.

Monthélie tucks into the hills right behind Volnay, sharing a boundary and much of the geology, and it has long been where you find Côte de Beaune Pinot at fair prices. This premier cru sits on the Volnay side, on a well-exposed slope of thin, stony limestone, and is usually rated the village's best. The domaine farms organically and biodynamically, sorts by hand, ferments mostly destemmed in open vessels and uses only a little new oak.

Fine-boned and bright, with red cherry, earthy savouriness and gentle tannin. Serve at 15-16°C with duck, roast pork, mushrooms or a board of cured meats and hard cheese.
