Description
Domaine Vincent Latour Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Blanc is a white Burgundy from the largest and best known premier cru of Chassagne-Montrachet.
Morgeot spreads across a broad hillside in the south of the commune and is really a group of climats bottled under one name. The land was worked by monks long before it was classified, and the Abbaye de Morgeot still stands among the vines. Soils here carry more clay than the lighter sites further north, and the wines are correspondingly broader. Domaine Vincent Latour is based in Meursault, where the family has grown vines for several generations; it has no connection to the merchant house of Louis Latour in Beaune. Vincent Latour took over from his father in the early 2000s and has since brought the domaine's own barrel making and a more measured hand with new oak. The whites are whole-bunch pressed, fermented in barrel and given a long elevage on lees before bottling.
It suits richer dishes: lobster, poultry in cream, veal or aged hard cheese. Serve at about 12 degrees, and give it several years if possible.
