Domaine Vincent Latour Meursault 1er Cru Charmes 2023

Domaine Vincent Latour Meursault 1er Cru Charmes is a white Burgundy from the largest of Meursault's premier crus, and the most widely loved.

Les Charmes occupies the lower and mid slope in the south of the commune, below Les Perrieres, on deeper soils that give a rounder wine than its stonier neighbour; the name is usually traced to chaume, an old word for fallow ground, rather than to charm. Meursault is the largest white wine commune of the Cote d'Or and, curiously, has no grand cru. Domaine Vincent Latour is based in Meursault, where the family has grown vines for several generations; it has no connection to the merchant house of Louis Latour in Beaune. Vincent Latour took over from his father in the early 2000s and has since brought the domaine's own barrel making and a more measured hand with new oak. The whites are whole-bunch pressed, fermented in barrel and given a long elevage on lees before bottling.

A wine for roast poultry, veal, lobster or aged Comte, served at about 12 degrees. It drinks well earlier than most Meursault premier crus but will hold for a decade.
