Description
Domaine Vincent Latour Meursault 1er Cru Goutte d'Or is a white Burgundy from a premier cru whose name, drop of gold, has been doing its marketing for centuries.
La Goutte d'Or lies at the northern end of Meursault's premier crus, on the side of the commune facing Volnay, and was singled out by name in nineteenth century surveys of the Cote long before the present classification existed. The soils are heavier than those of Perrieres to the south, and the wines are typically fuller in build. Meursault has no grand cru, so climats such as this one carry its reputation. Domaine Vincent Latour is based in Meursault, where the family has grown vines for several generations; it has no connection to the merchant house of Louis Latour in Beaune. Vincent Latour took over from his father in the early 2000s and has since brought the domaine's own barrel making and a more measured hand with new oak. The whites are whole-bunch pressed, fermented in barrel and given a long elevage on lees before bottling.
Serve at around 12 degrees with lobster, poultry in cream, veal or a mature hard cheese.
