Description
Domaine Xavier Monnot Beaune 1er Cru Les Cent-Vignes Rouge is a red Burgundy from a Premier Cru at the northern end of the Beaune slope.
Les Cent-Vignes lies on gentle, well drained ground north of the town of Beaune, on the side that leans towards Savigny and Chorey, and it has long been regarded as one of the more generous of Beaune's many Premiers Crus. Beaune has more Premier Cru land than any other commune on the Côte d'Or, a legacy of centuries in which the town's merchant houses owned much of the slope. Xavier Monnot runs the family domaine from Meursault, a house better known for its whites but with a useful spread of red holdings on the Côte de Beaune. The wine is Pinot Noir, fermented and raised in barrel in the classical Burgundian manner.
Serve at around 16 degrees with roast duck, coq au vin, mushroom dishes or soft washed rind cheeses, and expect it to reward a few years in the cellar.
