Description
Domaine Xavier Monnot Monthelie Les Duresses is a white Burgundy from a named site in Monthélie, one of the quieter villages of the Côte de Beaune.
Monthélie sits in a fold of the hills between Volnay and Auxey-Duresses, tucked back from the main slope, and it has long been overshadowed by its neighbours despite sharing much of the same geology. Les Duresses lies on the Auxey side of the commune, on a slope that faces east and south east, and it is one of the village's better regarded climats. Most of Monthélie is planted to Pinot Noir, so white wine from here is a comparative rarity and usually comes from the higher, cooler parcels. Xavier Monnot farms from Meursault, a short walk away, and makes his whites in the classical style, fermented and raised in oak barrels.
Serve at around 12 degrees with roast chicken, pork, or fish in a butter sauce.
