Description
Domaine Xavier Monnot Monthélie Les Duresses Blanc is a Chardonnay from Les Duresses in Monthélie, a village that most people pass through on the way to somewhere more famous.
Monthélie lies in a side valley off the main Côte de Beaune slope, wedged between Volnay to the north and Auxey-Duresses to the west, and shares the limestone and marl of both. Les Duresses is on the Auxey facing side of the commune, a slope with an easterly aspect that catches the morning sun and holds freshness through the afternoon. The commune is planted overwhelmingly to Pinot Noir, which makes Chardonnay from here uncommon and usually the product of the cooler, higher parcels. Xavier Monnot is based in Meursault and makes his whites the way that village taught the world, whole bunch pressed, barrel fermented and aged on lees with modest new oak.
Serve at around 12 degrees with grilled fish, roast poultry, or a gratin of vegetables.
