Domaine Xavier Monnot Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières 2022

Domaine Xavier Monnot Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières is a white Burgundy from one of the largest and most highly regarded Premiers Crus of Puligny-Montrachet.

Les Folatières runs across the upper slope on the northern side of Puligny, above the village and beneath the woods that cap the hill, on stony ground with limestone very close to the surface. That combination of altitude, thin soil and eastern aspect gives wines with a tighter, more chiselled frame than the fuller Premiers Crus lower down. Puligny-Montrachet is the village that shares the Montrachet Grand Cru with Chassagne, and its water table sits high enough that many growers cannot dig cellars beneath their houses. Xavier Monnot works from neighbouring Meursault, pressing whole bunches, fermenting in barrel and ageing on lees before bottling.

Serve at around 12 to 13 degrees with lobster, turbot, scallops or poultry in a cream sauce, and give it several years in the cellar to unfold.
