Domaine Yves Cuilleron Côte-Rôtie 'Madinière' Syrah Viognier 2023

Domaine Yves Cuilleron Côte-Rôtie 'Madinière' is a Syrah with a touch of Viognier from the steep terraced slopes of Côte-Rôtie.

In the late 1980s Yves Cuilleron took over the family holding at Chavanay, and he has since built it into one of the most complete estates in the northern Rhône. Here the schist hillsides above Ampuis are too steep for machines. The appellation also allows a small amount of Viognier to be fermented with the Syrah, which sets the colour and lifts the aromatics. This blend draws on several parcels, fermented with a share of whole clusters and aged around a year and a half in French oak, partly new.

Perfumed and full, with dark berries, violet, olive and smoked meat on firm, polished tannin. Decant for two hours, or cellar it a while longer; serve at 16–18°C with roast lamb, game or hard cheese.
