Domaine Yves Cuilleron Syrah 'Ripa Sinistra' IGP 2023

Domaine Yves Cuilleron Syrah 'Ripa Sinistra' IGP is a hillside Syrah from the northern Rhône, bottled under a regional IGP designation.

The name refers to the left bank of the river, and the fruit comes from granite hillside parcels outside the boundaries of the big appellations, or from younger plantings within them. The Collines Rhodaniennes designation covers exactly these slopes either side of the Rhône. The domaine farms them to the same standard as its Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu and Saint-Joseph vines and treats this as a proper cuvée, not a second wine. Hand-picked Syrah gets some whole bunches, an extended maceration and about a year in French barrels, with new oak kept in the background.

Full and peppery, with blackberry and smoked meat on a firm, polished tannic frame. A short decant helps. Serve at 16–18°C with barbecued lamb, beef ribs, charcuterie or hard cheese.
