Dr. Bürklin-Wolf Goldbächel Riesling 2022

Dr. Bürklin-Wolf Goldbächel Riesling is a Wachenheim Erste Lage bottled under the estate's P.C. designation.

Goldbächel occupies a sheltered fold on the Wachenheim slope where a small stream cuts through the hill, on weathered red sandstone with loam. The site is warm and relatively early ripening, giving a Riesling with generous fruit and a rounder shape than the limestone-influenced Altenberg alongside it. Dr. Bürklin-Wolf, founded in 1597 and biodynamic under Demeter certification since the early 2000s, ranks it P.C. within the Burgundian-style hierarchy the estate revived from its historic vineyard classification. The grapes are hand-harvested, whole-bunch pressed and fermented spontaneously in large neutral oak casks, then aged on fine lees through the winter and bottled dry with a DIAM closure.

Dry and comparatively approachable young, with ripe orchard fruit over a firm frame; serve at 11 to 12 degrees with pork, poultry, or creamy pasta.
