Dr. Bürklin-Wolf Riesling Altenburg PC 1.5L MAGNUM 2017

Bürklin-Wolf Riesling Altenburg is a dry Premier Cru Riesling from a Wachenheim site, here in magnum with some bottle age.

Dr. Bürklin-Wolf classifies its vineyards in a Burgundian hierarchy, and the initials P.C. on the label mark a Premier Cru, the estate's equivalent of an Erste Lage, a step below its Grand Cru sites. Altenburg lies within the estate's home commune of Wachenheim, on limestone-influenced soils at the foot of the Haardt hills, a cooler cast of site that tends to give a more linear, tightly wound Riesling. The estate has been at Wachenheim since 1597 and works biodynamically with Demeter certification. The wine is fermented fully dry with ambient yeasts and matured in large traditional oak casks before bottling.

Dry, mineral and firm, with bottle age beginning to soften its edges, it suits roast fish, poultry, pork and hard cheese; serve at around 11 to 12 degrees.
