Description
Dr. Bürklin-Wolf Wachenheimer Riesling is the estate's dry village wine from Wachenheim, home of the domaine since 1597.
Wachenheim lies at the northern end of the Mittelhaardt, where the Haardt hills shelter the vineyards from the west and the Rhine plain opens out to the east. Its soils are dominated by weathered sandstone with bands of limestone and loam, giving Rieslings that are a touch rounder and more open than those of neighbouring Forst. This bottling draws on younger vines and declassified parcels from the estate's Wachenheim holdings, which include the classified Gerümpel, Böhlig, Altenberg and Goldbächel as well as the Rechbächel monopole. Farming is biodynamic and Demeter certified. The wine ferments with wild yeasts in stainless steel and large neutral casks, rests on fine lees, and is bottled dry under screwcap.
A dry, mineral village Riesling with real drive; serve at 10 to 12 degrees with roast chicken, pork, or river fish.
