Drinking with the Valkyries is a collection of Andrew Jefford's wine essays, opinions and articles from 2007 to 2022.

Randall Grahm once called Jefford the most thoughtful person writing about wine, and this volume shows why. Across fifteen years of pieces he listens to wine wherever it comes from, turns old-school pretension on its head, ignores style points and treats high prices with suspicion. The book also includes an edited version of his 2012 lecture to the Wine Communicators of Australia, Wine and Astonishment, whose stated aim was to make wine strange again and in doing so remake the reader's relationship with it. There is not much else like it on the subject.

It suits readers who want writing more than tasting notes, and works particularly well read in short bursts. A good gift for someone in the trade who has read all the reference books and now wants something to argue with.
