Dry River Chardonnay 2022

Dry River Chardonnay is a structured, age-worthy white from one of Martinborough's pioneering small estates.

Dry River was established in 1979 by Neil McCallum on the stony river terraces of Martinborough, near the southern end of New Zealand's North Island, and has built its name on low yields and wines made to last. The dry, windy climate and free-draining gravels keep crops small and flavours concentrated. For the 2022 Chardonnay, fermentation was carried out by wild yeast from the vineyard and malolactic conversion by wild bacteria, followed by twelve months in French oak. The winery says the result has a fine balance of acidity and oak, with citrus tension when served cool and more richness as it warms in the glass.

Take it out of the fridge 15 minutes before pouring and serve at around 10 to 12 degrees, so both the freshness and the texture come through. Roast chicken, crayfish, pork belly or a creamy pasta all suit, and it will cellar well for several years.
