Dry River Pinot Noir 2022

Dry River Pinot Noir is a structured, cellar-worthy Pinot Noir from the estate that helped build Martinborough's reputation for the grape.

Neil McCallum planted Dry River in 1979, and its Pinot Noir soon became one of New Zealand's most sought-after, known for depth, longevity and firm structure more than early charm. Vines are cropped low on the gravel terraces, and the region's dry, windy growing season builds thick skins and concentrated fruit. The winery describes the 2022 as perfumed and red-fruited, with Mirabelle plum, allspice, subtle oak and a backbone of bright acidity that should carry it through the next decade.

Decant for half an hour if drinking young and serve at around 15 to 17 degrees. Duck breast, lamb rack, venison or mushroom dishes are natural partners.
