Easthope Family Winegrowers Home Block Syrah 2025

Easthope Family Winegrowers Home Block Syrah is a single-site Hawke's Bay red grown on the family's own high ridge at Mangatahi.

Every bunch goes into the ferment whole and is plunged by hand, then the wine spends fourteen months in seasoned Chassin oak puncheons. That ridge above the Ngaruroro River is steep and well off the usual Hawke's Bay track, and Rod and Emma Easthope work it between them. There is no fining; a fine pad filter and the bottling line at the winery are the last two steps.

Dark berry fruit leads, with five spice and aniseed sitting behind it and polished tannins holding a generous palate in shape. Serve at 16-18C. Good with lamb shoulder, grilled sausages or a peppered steak.
