Description
Egon Müller Château Belá Riesling is a dry Riesling from southern Slovakia, made under the eye of the Saar's most celebrated Riesling family.
Château Belá lies in the far south of Slovakia, close to the Danube and the Hungarian border, on gentle ground quite unlike the near-vertical slate of the Saar. The estate was restored to its owners after the fall of communism, and the wine has been made in partnership with Egon Müller of the Scharzhof since the early years of this century. It is a rare example of the family's approach applied outside Germany: Riesling picked ripe but not late, fermented and raised without fuss, and finished dry rather than in the delicately sweet style that Müller is best known for at home. Production is small and the wine has a following well beyond Slovakia.
Serve at around 10 degrees with river fish, roast pork or lightly spiced Asian dishes; it also holds well for several years in bottle.
