Description
Egon Müller Wiltinger Braune Kupp Riesling Auslese comes from a single Saar vineyard worked by the same family that owns the Scharzhofberg.
The Braune Kupp lies on the edge of Wiltingen, in the Saar valley, and forms the heart of the Le Gallais estate, which the Müller family also owns and vinifies at the Scharzhof. It is a steep slate site, a touch warmer and quicker to ripen than the Scharzhofberg, and its wines carry a distinct signature that regulars of the house learn to recognise. Auslese is made from selected ripe bunches, generally with a portion affected by botrytis, whole-bunch pressed and fermented slowly in old Fuder casks with the cellar's own yeasts. The ferment stops naturally, leaving a sweet wine of very low alcohol produced in small quantities.
Serve at around 8 to 10 degrees on its own, with blue cheese or with fruit desserts; it will keep for decades in a cool cellar.
