Description
Egon Müller Wiltinger Braune Kupp Riesling Kabinett is a Saar Riesling from the vineyard that is the heart of the family's Le Gallais estate.
The Braune Kupp sits on the edge of Wiltingen, a short distance from the Scharzhof, and belongs to Le Gallais, a property owned by the Müller family and made in the same cellar by the same hands. The site is steep slate, a little warmer and earlier than the Scharzhofberg, and it has long had its own following. Kabinett is the lightest rung of the German ripeness ladder, picked earliest, whole-bunch pressed and fermented slowly in old wooden Fuder with the cellar's ambient yeasts. The ferment stops of its own accord, leaving modest natural sweetness and alcohol that often sits below nine per cent.
Serve well chilled, at around 8 degrees, as an aperitif or alongside crab, sashimi or lightly spiced Asian dishes; despite its lightness it will age happily for a decade or more.
