Egon Müller Wiltinger Braune Kupp Riesling Spätlese 2022

Egon Müller Wiltinger Braune Kupp Riesling Spätlese comes from a steep slate vineyard at Wiltingen on the Saar, worked by the family of the Scharzhof.

The Braune Kupp is the principal vineyard of the Le Gallais estate, owned by the Müller family and vinified alongside their own wines in the cellar at the Scharzhof. It is a steep slate site on the edge of Wiltingen, slightly warmer and earlier to ripen than the Scharzhofberg, and it has been bottled separately for well over a century. Spätlese, a late picking, is harvested in later passes through the vineyard once the fruit has gained ripeness. Bunches are pressed whole, the juice ferments at length in old Fuder casks with the cellar's ambient yeasts, and the ferment stops naturally, leaving sweetness held in check by the Saar's considerable acidity.

Serve at around 8 to 10 degrees as an aperitif, with spiced Asian food or with fresh fruit; it will age gracefully for many years.
