Description

Empire of Dirt Vivienne Shiraz is a peppery, medium-bodied Shiraz from Geelong in Victoria that drinks well young.

Low rainfall and strong winds are part of life in this corner of the state, and the soils run from volcanic basalt through to limestone and clay. Maritime influence from the bay and the Strait keeps the season long, so the grape leans towards pepper and spice, with brighter acidity than warmer Australian versions. The winery is a small outfit known as much for its bold names and packaging as for what's in the bottle.

Try it at 16–18°C with barbecued meats, lamb kofta or a hearty bean stew. It's lovely now and will sit happily in the cellar for a few years too.
