Description
La Bota 116 is an Equipo Navazos bottling of a very old oloroso from Montilla-Moriles, drawn from a single solera at Pérez Barquero.
Equipo Navazos selects individual casks from Andalusian bodegas and bottles them as they are, and the numbered La Bota series has done as much as anything to change how these wines are read. This saca was drawn in October 2022 from casks in the Solera Diogenes, in the third row at Perez Barquero's Bodega El Puente. Montilla-Moriles works with Pedro Ximenez rather than Palomino, and oloroso here is made from the second-press must, or vino de color, rather than the first-press yema; co-owner Rafael Cordoba has a long reputation for the quality of both, and winemaker Juan Marquez uses those second-press musts for the olorosos. Unlike the earlier No. 74 release, every cask selected this time came from the solera itself rather than from younger criaderas, which, with the time elapsed and the small withdrawal, puts the estimated average age close to 35 years.
Serve at 14-16°C in a small glass; it suits aged cheese, jamon, oxtail or consomme, and an open bottle will keep for several weeks.
