Equipo Navazos La Bota 117 Amontillado Navazos

Equipo Navazos La Bota 117 Amontillado Navazos is an unfortified amontillado of more than twenty years' age, the first in the series drawn from Montilla rather than Sanlúcar.

The La Bota series is Equipo Navazos' record of individual casks selected from Andalucía's finest bodegas, and its amontillado thread runs back to La Bota No. 1. Earlier releases came from Sanlúcar; for No. 117 the team travelled inland to Montilla-Moriles, drawn by the chance to bottle a spectacularly fine and lively amontillado. The wine comes from Altos de Moriles and from the venerable bodega of Pérez Barquero, and is made from Pedro Ximénez, the workhorse variety of Montilla, rather than Palomino. It began life as a fino under a veil of flor, passed its first oxidative stage in a cellar at Lucena, then completed ageing at Pérez Barquero. In the Montilla tradition it has never been fortified: natural alcohol sits below 18 per cent, which keeps it fluid and fresh despite two decades of oxidative maturation. Drawn in October 2022.

Serve in a large white wine glass at 11–13°C, as an aperitif or right through a meal. It handles powerful meat dishes, hard and soft cheeses and even spicy Asian food.
