Equipo Navazos La Bota 65 Ron Single Cask, Bota NO

Equipo Navazos La Bota 65 is a single-cask aged rum finished in Jerez in Oloroso casks.

Distilled in the Antilles, this rum spent just over five years maturing on site in first-fill bourbon casks. It was then shipped to Jerez de la Frontera and moved into freshly emptied Oloroso butts, where it sat until bottling in 2016 at 44 per cent. It is now somewhere between fifteen and twenty years old, and only 800 bottles were filled. The casks are the same ones behind the collaboration with the New York spirits merchant Nicolas Palazzi. Aged rum handled this way has structure and finesse where the category has trained people to expect rusticity.

Bright and silky, with dried stone fruit, candied citrus, a little resin and a lifted floral note, and a finish so fine the alcohol almost disappears. Serve it neat in a small glass at room temperature. Add ice or cola at your peril.
